Bio

Monica Maja Richardson is an abstract artist from Rome.
After a successful career as a TV presenter in Italy she moved to London in 2004, and focused on her passion for painting. Monica spent years in her studio experimenting with a variety of tools and colour palettes, developing her own freethinking style.
Art has always been her passion, her uncle was an artist and the smell of his oil colours is one the strongest memories of her childhood.
Monica is a self-taught artist, everything she knows is something she has experimented for a long time. And she still loves learning every day. Using art as a way to communicate passions and emotions, she creates colourful and large abstract paintings, inspired by the great art of her favourite artists, Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter and Frida Khalo.
Her work is characterised by emotive colour splashes in bright colour palettes, bringing a rhythm and energy to each canvas. In the last few years Monica’s career has gone from strength to strength, with more solo exhibitions and prestigious Art Fairs, and her works can now be found in many art collections all over the world.

Artist Statement

I love abstract. I completely fell in love with Pollock the first time I saw his paintings. I didn't go to an art school, didn't study to become an artist. It just happened slowly in my life. I thought art was something you had to learn, but when I saw Pollock's artworks, when I saw all the amazing abstract paintings, I then realised that art is not something that you learn. It's something that you feel.
