Bio
I was born in the Philippines in 1969, came to America in about 1974… Grew up on the southside, moved to Lake Geneva Wisconsin… Then to Highland Park Illinois for high school… And then onto SAIC… School of the art institute of Chicago… I have been selling my work since I was a student about 1989 mostly on my own but through a few galleries, nothing big or well-known… And also in Los Angeles… I had an agent, had several single and group shows… But mainly I’ve sold most of my work on my own… I don’t really like the Gallery system since they want you to paint the same thing over and over just a little bit differently every time… Not my thing, as you can see my work changes from one piece to another, they standalone as individual artworks… Not as a series of hundreds of paintings that look almost all alike over and over and over… I believe that stifle creativity… And the evolution of the artist. Artist Statement
I don’t repeat myself when I do my artwork, each piece stands alone… Are usually never do a series of works, I don’t do the gallery thing just to be recognized… I don’t want to be an artist that is known for doing one thing… I prefer to evolve and change with every Work of art… Maybe I will do a series one day if inspired… But for the most part I like to do different things each time… We have to evolve, we have to be creative and learn… What’s the point of doing the same thing over and over? That’s the Gallery system, are used to work for Gallery’s moving artwork to navy pier… And most of the work is decent but why are you keep repeating yourself? I met Nicholas Africano years ago… Saw his huge 10 x 10‘ paintings when we were picking them up from southern Illinois… His sculptures were beautiful but when I asked about his muddy, gray, really rudimentary Stick Figure style drawings with a little bit of words underneath … What is your inspiration? They’re paying me $100,000… Exactly… His sculpture is beautiful, his paintings were crap… But sometimes galleries and museums/curators… Think they’re so intellectual when they actually are being fooled by the artist… So much aren’t you see that as contemporary is very cold, alienating… And for me as another artist… Ridiculous and pointless… and digital art… Don’t even get me started… I stopped painting for 20 years because of what happened to the gallery system that has gone digital… It turned me off so I stopped painting until recently. I guess I’m just old school that way. But I prefer the days of art before technology and crypto currencies that people are trying to purchase my art for with NFTS.. it’s incredibly frustrating and I think insulting. Because many of them are just scammers anyway. They want to profit from my work by digitizing it and reselling it? And they don’t have the money to pay for it in cash? No thank you…
