Artwork Description
Description
This oil on canvas artwork is listed for sale as an individual piece, however it is beautiful hung along side any other works from the Chalk Rockpool series
Collection Statement
Inspired by the rock pools around Cliftonville in Margate at sunset. I am very interested in the idea of spontaneous pattern making through organic movements - this is known as psychic automatism or surreal automatism. I start with splash movements in ink, then layer up the composition with litigious and detailed oil paint colour matching. The works take over a week to create with drying time.
Artist Information
Bio
Sarah Restall is a contemporary painter and Elam Art School graduate originally from New Zealand now living in Margate. Her works are inspired by light and nature, exploring spontaneous pattern making, colour-field imagery and surrealist automatism. Her work is an on-going investigation into balance and harmony. She uses colour-field techniques to establish spontaneous forms, then builds on them with controlled paintwork. She is inspired by nature, rock pools, the coast, and the sea.
