Bio
Growing up in a high-density city, Jessi learned to ignore everyone around her. In Hong Kong, she was used to passing by hundreds of people every day without eye contact.In her early twenties, she ventured out to explore different cultures, and traveling opened her eyes and helped her learn to connect with other individuals. People are fascinating in many aspects.
At age 19, Jessi studied Drawing at an Atelier for one year. The skills she had learned laid a foundation for understanding major principles in Art. For a short time, Jessi fulfilled her dream of being an artist in Paris. Afterward, life took her to the US, where she earned a BFA in Art & Technology at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She worked professionally as a digital artist in the film industry for a few years, then felt a calling back to the luxury and tactility of oil painting.
Artist Statement
My little girl once told me that everything had eyes. She put "eyes" on everything she drew.
Then she would make up stories and personalities.
We yearn for communication. We want to understand others and to be understood. I like to paint people because I can read and interpret feelings and emotions from my subjects interactively.
Emotions speak a universal language that does not need interpretation. We all have them, and we can connect through understanding them.
