Artwork Description
Description
I drew this piece after I got back from a trip to Haines and Juneau in Alaska, back in the summer of 2017. I picked up a free map at a coffee shop and immediately wanted to create a portrait an octopus upon this map.
This is one my earliest illustrations. In my early work I often drew semi circle patterns, to represent the vast body of water of the PNW.
Collection Statement
Map Art inspiration comes from living and visiting many beach parks, lakes and rivers around the Puget Sound and Alaska. I migrated to USA from Mexico City and Seattle has been home for 20 + years. The Duwamish Territory is truly beautiful place surrounded by mountains, pine trees and water.

I choose to work on maps because it gives a sense me of location while observing marine life and people’s lifestyle, hence an octopus, humpback whale, human head and a mermaid.
Maps as a background gives a unique visual textures, they are also free.
As an Artist and Educator, I am conscious about the environment, so is also a way to repurpose and make art with it. Besides maps, I use cardstock, watercolor pencil, acrylics and black sharpies.
