Artwork Description
Description
People often question what is the difference between New Delhi and Old Delhi. It is said that pre partition of India in 1947, the original residents of Delhi who were mainly Muslim, lived in Old Delhi. New Delhi was the newer area/residence created for Hindus who migrated over from Pakistan (then India) during partition. Old Delhi is still known for it's traditional flea markets , it's numerous mosques and the Red Fort, amongst other things.
Artist Information
Bio
I come from India and have been living in the UK since 2007. I've been dabbling at art for a long time, as early as my secondary school days. But London and the UK opened up opportunities to join art groups and I learnt a lot in the process. My teacher Nelson Ferreira has taught me everything that I know today. Most of my art is colourful. I love vibrant colours and textures. I draw inspiration for my art from nature and my surroundings. Since I was born and raised in India, there will always be a cultural influence from that side of the world in my art especially the painting of the Sikh man and the ladies in sarees. Water colours, gel gouache and acrylics are my go to medium for any artwork. And most of the merchandise (cards, tote bags) are home printed/made. Other than art, I work as a software architect full time with Salesforce Ltd.
Artist Statement
Art is very personal. What each of us creates is not for commercial purposes but to give joy to that part of our soul that craves freedom. I have often witnessed people picking up a handmade card and saying - oh this is too expensive. Well that's the huge difference between commercially produced items and handmade items. They are one of a kind. With the effort and love that's put in every piece, it's worth it because there's no other like it. Art should be for oneself as much as for giving joy to whoever likes it.
