Artwork Description
Description
A sign at the entrance of Seattle's Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, summer 2020
Photograph mounted in black lacquered wood frame with 2" white mat.
Collection Statement
I've always paid more attention to the details in the background than the action in the foreground. I bring my camera with me everywhere I go, and record what catches my eye. My goal is to draw attention to that which may otherwise go unnoticed or unseen, to engage the viewer's curiosity about details they may typically ignore.
Artist Information
Bio
Kerry Lannert is a molecular biologist and photographer based in Seattle, WA. Her photography focuses on highlighting often-overlooked details both in the world at large and within the confines of the laboratory. She received her BA in molecular biology at Hampshire College, and received training in microscopic photography at Mount Holyoke College.
Artist Statement
Our surroundings are in perpetual motion, changing in ways both obvious and imperceptible. The nature of photography is to isolate and preserve the perishable, holding it still in perpetuity. Patterns of growth, decay, and renewal exist at all scales, from the microscopic to the cosmic, from gardens to graffiti. Capturing these fleeting moments is immortality.
