Bio

Esther Loopstra is a painter and writer living in Seattle. In 2007 she received her BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and had a prolific 15-year career as a commercial illustrator. She taught illustration and design at Kent State University and Cornish College of the Arts for over 10 years.

In 2019 she began to focus primarily on her career as a fine artist. Working as an abstract expressionist painter, her work has evolved into mixed media over the years, exploring various textures, collage and mediums as well as ideas related to science, consciousness, and the intelligence of the unknown.

Esther is also passionate about helping others to connect to their own intuition and sense of Self. She is a creative coach and frequently speaks on topics such as creativity, neuroscience, intuition, & the psychology of flow. She also co-hosts the Flow into Authenticity podcast.

Artist Statement

Inspired by the intricate ecosystems that support us on a biological and energetic level, Loopstra takes the viewer on a passage of self-discovery by weaving through pathways and portals that reveal the brilliance of life, and the beauty of its darkness. By creating artwork reminiscent of internal landscapes, she is especially interested in expressing the sensual nature of the Self and how we intimately connect to our bodies, environment, each other, and the infinite.

Loopstra’s mixed media paintings unfold like a journey through an intuitive process. She flows with her instincts, developing layers, and working back into them, allowing her paintings to change and grow.

She uses acrylic and latex paint but adds surprising materials like joint compound, collage, liquid latex, and acrylic mediums, along with markers, crayons, watercolor, and pencils.
