Artist Statement
I create vibrant, contemporary paintings in acrylics, inspired by the natural world. I'm drawn to structure and patterns in nature, and particularly focus on capturing a sense of flowers bursting into life with their elegant, powerful forms. I enjoy representing the essence of flowers or landscapes, sometimes more abstracted than others, and stylising them to make them my own with expressive marks and patterns. My approach is to layer up loose marks to create depth and movement, and to keep my paintings fresh and open to interpretation, while making sure they remain representative. I also experiment with bold backgrounds, dramatic marks and enlarged scale, to create an interesting contrast with the delicate nature of my subject matters.
