Artist Statement
For as long as I can remember, I’ve chased big questions. Thoughts around what we value, how we interact and care for one another, and how culture shapes identity - it all interests me and I follow the threads of where these questions take me.
My recent work explores my lived experience and relationship to models of self-care. I live with a cyclical mood disorder and grew up believing the elusiveness of comfort and calm was my own moral failing. Wellness culture and aspirational media such as teen magazines became dead-end maps that I often followed in a hungry search for peace. Exploring these cultural forces and reducing them to their simple elements, exposes a shallow power that I can better actively resist.
