Bio

My name is Xochitl Melanie, (Xochitl is a Nahuatl word meaning "flower" in case you were wondering). I am a London-born artist who spent my formative years between Mexico-USA, Spain and France. Growing up in multicultural environments, I was exposed to diverse perspectives, cultures, and artistic traditions, which have all contributed to shaping my creative style and vision.

Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to creative expression, whether it was through drawing, music, or dance. However, it wasn't until a long day at work, during which my chronic back pain flared up, that I discovered the therapeutic benefits of painting. This moment of physical and emotional pain led me to pick up a paintbrush and begin exploring this new form of expression.

Over time, my love of painting has grown into a deep passion for art. I am continually inspired by my travels and the world around me, whether it's the colors of a sunset, the texture of a building's facade, or the emotions evoked by a piece of music. I use these inspirations to inform my work, always striving to create pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and emotionally resonant.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy exploring my pieces and that they bring you joy, inspiration and a sense of connection.

Artist Statement

As an artist, I am passionate about exploring different materials and techniques to bring my pieces to life. I believe that each medium has its unique qualities and characteristics that can be harnessed to evoke different emotions and sensations in the viewer.
When I begin a new piece, I carefully consider which materials and techniques will best convey the message and emotions that I am trying to express. I may experiment with paint, pastels, charcoal, ink, or other media to achieve the desired effect. I often work with mixed media, incorporating a range of materials and textures to create a rich, layered effect.
One of the hallmarks of my work is a strong emphasis on textures. I believe that texture can add depth, dimension, and tactile interest to a piece, making it more engaging and dynamic. Whether it's through the use of impasto paint, rough brushstrokes, or the incorporation of found objects and natural materials, I am always looking for ways to add textural interest to my work.
By combining a variety of materials and techniques and emphasizing texture, I am able to create pieces that are both visually stunning and emotionally evocative. I hope that each piece I create connects with the viewer on a deep level, evoking emotions, and sparking their imagination.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my work.
